The Winds of Change
August in Wollombi equals strong sweeping winds and a golden explosion of wattle. This year we already have both, their onset sudden and unexpected and taking us all by surprise. As wind often does, whipping our hair and our clothes, our moods and our modes, into an altered state.Scientists have been proving for decades how weather conditions - and in particular winds powerful enough to sweep through continents and claim their own name - affect people's mood and health. Any kindy teacher will tell you wind makes kids crazy as they whirl and spin delighted. All those positive ions crackling about us, within us. The science is fascinating as it links our outer environment to our inner.Whenever the winds of change howl through our lives, they deliver something new and unfamiliar as they sweep the old away. The shifts blow through out of nowhere, unforecast and often unbidden. And as well we have been schooled, any sudden shift on two fronts is disconcerting to say the least. Our cosmic changemaker Uranus is stationing now to turn retrograde in Aries. Just add fire to give the wind something to really whip up! This magnifies his influence, already significant this week and throughout August and our impending eclipse spell. It is a season of transformation writ large, if for some reason you hadn't already got the memo that nearly nothing is set in stone this year. Here comes the ratcheting, zooming towards us at lightspeed.I unearthed this German barometer with its astrological glyphs and handcrafted magic at Wollombi Markets years ago. Any time I look to it, I am reminded that the needle is always pointing to change. In order to surf these waves - and oh what a set, stretching to the bright horizon and new season - we must steady and support our nerves, holding them and nourishing them and fostering calm in the eye of the storm. Ion research and its affects on our autonomic nervous system again proving what any mystic knows: if you can stand steady and grounded in the face of any way the wind blows, you can roll in rhapsody with the seasons of your life. When the winds of change blow, some people build walls and others build windmills.~ Chinese proverbImage and words © Kerrie Basha, 2017
