Half a year ago, on the opposite side of the wheel of the year at the equinox, life tipped wildly out of balance. The world was shifted irrevocably by pandemonia. Things felt uncertain, uneven and unsteady.
As we move beyond the tipping point on this side of the wheel, the new season is well sprung and unwearied by the warring world of men and medicine. Nature has not just righted herself this year, she has reached deep into our muted hearts and called them to proper attention with her true colours.
Though the equinox is all about the balance between dark and light, it teaches us on repeat that balance is a process of constant adjustment. It is not a fixed state; it is perpetual motion. And in a world revolting and rebirthing, the idea of it becomes even more precious.
Balance is something you can only ever find inside yourself. No matter what. I hope this equinox, yours righted itself just enough for you to feel its peace and promise. Rippling backwards and forwards along your lifeline, its adventurous navigation a fine art honed by this strange year out of time.
Oh, what a catastrophe for man when he cut himself off from the rhythm of the year, from his unison with the sun and the earth. Oh, what a catastrophe, what a maiming of love when it was a personal, merely personal feeling, taken away from the rising and the setting of the sun, and cut off from the magic connection of the solstice and the equinox.
